Gift Closet

Becoming a frugal gift giver is something that you should really look into when you are trying to save money. This doesn’t mean that your gifts have to be on the cheap side, they just need to save you money.

Having a gift closet is one of the greatest ways to save money when it comes to gift giving. Plus it comes in handy if you’re ever in need of a last minute gift. Let’s go over some ways that you too can start a gift closet and start saving yourself some money.

What is a Gift Closet?
A gift closet is a place where you contain items that you make or purchase throughout the year when the time and price is right. It doesn’t necessary have to be a closet. It can be a tote, storage bin or anything to stash your gifts away in.

Why spend ten dollars on an item when you can wait for sales where you can get that same item for 50% or even 75% off? Having a gift closet will save you time and money. Don’t ever get stuck without a gift again.

Let’s Go Shopping
Whenever you are out and about and you see you have some extra cash find the clearance section in your local stores. These are the best places to find items to stash away in your gift closet. Places like Walgreens and Target are known for having fantastic deals. Some even up to 90% off. You will just need to keep your eyes peeled for these amazing deals.

Also hitting the black Friday and all after Christmas sales will save you tons of money. Some great items for kids to keep in mind are things like books, stuffed animals, puzzles, toy cars, etc. If you really look, there are many great deals in places that you already shop every day.

Buy Used
Shopping at thrift stores, yard sales and flea markets is another great way to stock your gift closet with inexpensive gifts. You’d be surprised at the great treasures you’ll find at these places. Sometimes you can even come across items that have never been used. If you have a book lover in mind these are great places to stock up on books at really good prices.

Regifting
Regifting doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Sometimes you receive a gift that you may already have or really can’t use. If this happens, why not pass that gift on to someone that you think would love it and can use it? It’s better than keeping it stored away and collecting dust, right?

Tip of advice though. If you should decide to regift an item place a sticky note on the item with the name of who gave you the item. This way you don’t end up giving the gift back to the person that gave it to you.

Wrap it Up
Finally, the last thing when it comes to having a gift closet, wrapping supplies. With your items in your gift closet you will want to have supplies to wrap your gift. Things like wrapping paper, bags, bows, tape, cards, etc. Instead of getting themed gift giving supplies stick with neutral themes and colors, that way you have what you need for any occasion.
