Making your own fabric softener is a lot easier then you may think and it will save you a lot of money. We have been making and using our own fabric softener for about 5 years now and we love it. It makes your clothes super soft and they smell fantastic.
Let us tell you how you too can make your own fabric softener and save you and your family some money. You will need some common ingredients that can be found at most retail stores. We personally have found two different ways to make your own fabric softener. Let’s learn how to make these two different types.
Fabric Softener #1
Before we can completely get started you will need to know what materials are needed to make this first type of fabric softener. Most of these materials you may already have on hand.

How to Make Fabric Softener #1
Follow these easy steps to make this first type of fabric softener.
Step #1 – Measure 1 cup of baking soda and pour into a large bowl.
Step #2 – Add 1 cup of water (best if it’s warm) and mix it with baking soda until the baking soda is dissolved.
Step #3 – Add 6 cups of vinegar to the mixer. There will be a chemical reaction that will make the mixer bubble up. That why we suggested using a large bowl.
Step #4 – Add 6 cups water and strew mixture.
Step #5 – This step is optional. Add about 10 to 15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Great scents for fabric softener are tea tree oil and lavender. Mix well.
Step #6 – Step #5 if you skipped the essential oil. Using a funnel pour your mixture into an empty jug or your old fabric softener bottle.
That’s it! Use 1 cup during your rinse cycle to have you clothes smelling fresh and feeling soft.
Fabric Softener #2
Before we can completely get started you will need to know what materials are needed to make this second type of fabric softener. Most of these materials you may already have on hand.
