Save With Vegetable and Olive Oil

Gardening can be hard work. But with these few tips to help, your garden will look like you spent all day in it.


  • Bugs Be Gone – Add a few drops of vegetable oil to your bird bath to keep bugs away and keep mosquitoes from laying eggs in the water.
  • Ants Be Gone – To keep ants from your humming bird feeders rub a small amount of olive oil on the tips of the feeding tube(s). This will make the ants stay at bay and allow the humming birds to eat with no worries.
  • Goodbye Moles – Soak an old cloth or rag in olive oil and put down into the moles hole. It keeps them away because they don’t like the smell.


  • Other Helpful Tips
    Did you know that olive oil was used with charcoal by ancient Greece women to make eye shadow? Read on to learn even more tips on how to use vegetable and olive oil.


  • Painted Hands – To remove oil based paint from your hands rub them with a drop of oil, and then wash with warm soapy water.
  • Furniture Polish – If you find yourself out of furniture polish grab a soft cloth and some vegetable or olive oil. They both work great to dust your wooden furniture.
  • Shaving – Do you want a close shave but your shaving cream doesn’t help? Try some olive oil the next time you shave. It will give you a nice close shave and you’ll feel silky smooth.
  • Remove Splinters – If you ever get a splinter that you can’t seem to get out try this. Soak the area for a few minutes in vegetable oil. This should soften the skin around the area enough to allow you to remove the splinter.
